The NJ Comprehensive Health and Physical Education standards, adopted in 2020 were scheduled to be rolled out in September 2022 until an uproar from parents caused Governor Murphy to "pause" the implementation. The Commissioner of the State Board of Education was questioned by the NJ legislators and the State Board said they would revisit them. On Thursday, May 5th, the State BOE met, but few knew that public testimony was allowed on any topic, even those on the agenda! The outcome of this meeting was disturbing, there will NOT be a review of the Sex Education standards, despite a request from four out of the 13 board members to delay implementation until a committee can re-examine the material and the age-appropriateness by grade level.
